Back To Basics

The last two weeks have been some of the best days of my life. Bryan and I have decided to get back to basics with our life. Starting with throwing out all our processed foods and getting a set number of ingredients to always have in the house. I thought I might feel stressed by this or even worried that I wouldn't have anything to feed my family but, I haven't. I have actually felt liberated! Just knowing that:

I can cook anything I need.

Essentially we have moved to more of a "Whole Foods" diet.

In the last week we have made homemade:

granola
several loafs of bread
veggie pizza
pesto
spaghetti sauce
strawberry jam
hot fudge
chocolate ice cream
vanilla ice cream
strawberry ice cream
creamy basil tomato soup

One cook book that I often refer to was given to me by my sweet Grandmother Watts. Today I thought about her a lot as we made bread and jam. I can remember sitting up on her counter eating her fresh bread and jam. See her:

I miss her dearly and think about her a lot. I was searching for a certain recipe in her Murtaugh cook book when I came across this note. Immediately tears came to my eyes. I love that she called me by my nick name and love that it was signed on this particular piece of note paper.

Love you Grandma and Grandpa

This last Saturday my mother and I woke up early to head up to Green Bluff to pick strawberries. It was a perfect morning! I was so happy I could spend that time with my mother. It was a surreal few hours. We were surrounded by such beauty as we picked and sacked on strawberries.
enjoy-
